For all of you waiting for a post, I do apologize. Life gets the better of us sometimes.
I will try to remember all cute stories I can, in no particular order.
Today Taj covered himself with a blanket and started rolling around on the floor, all the while singing and talking to himself. Then he started singing the hokie pokie. Didn't know he knew that one. He randomly stuck his foor out from under the blanket and shook it. And that's what it's all about.
Grandpa Eric will like this one.
The grands and great grands were up for Christmas this week, and Taj got lots of time to play with his Grandpapa Eric. Taj has also been watching and reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas a lot. (Few times a day) So we were reading the book and Taj pointed to a picture of the Grinch and said "Look mama- it's grandpapa Eric!"
Grandmama Clara was taking care of Taj late last spring and they were doing some toilet training. Taj ended up going on the floor. He looked at it and backed away a little and said, "Grandmama made a mess." He's ready for the presidency! It's all how you spin it.
Taj loves the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the newly discovered Long Marine Lab Discovery Center. He has watched Finding Nemo a few hundred times, and sleeps with a small plastic fish. I got him a photography book on the coral reef for Christmas. He found it at the book store and spent 1 1/2 hours looking at every page. He's very excited about his new book.
Taj's language skills are delightful. He has been practicing inflection in the last year. He hears how someone says something in a movie, and adopts it. He started saying, "Ahhhh, no, no I don't," instead of "no." If you had watched Cars 483,398 times like I have, you would know that Lightning McQueen says that just before he goes for a ride with Sally.
Taj has learned that saying someone's name in conjunction with what he wants is more effective. "Daddy, will you go downstairs and watch a movie with me?"
Taj is the best snuggle puppy in the world. He gives fabulous hugs and pats and rubs and kisses. And he says I wov you. He likes to snuggle under the covers every morning. Then he crawls up your body and finds your face and gives you a big smile. "Mama, wake up."
Taj is a planner. He'll say all the things he wants to do, like, "I want to call Ronan's mommie and I want to go with Ronan to the quarium and see scary fish (the angler fish from Finding Nemo). How does THAT sound like a plan?"
Taj has been taking gymnastics twice a week since the fall. It costs an arm and a leg, but he is learning great large motor skills and other helpful things like following directions. We keep meaning to get him into swimming lessons again, but now that it's winter, he'd just freeze. Even in the very very warm 96° pool, he still has very very little body fat, so even with a wetsuit it wouldn't work. Contrary to my thoughts, when we got back from Hawaii last winter I thought Taj would be rudely surprised by how cold the water is here. Au contrair, he didn't care a bit, so I had to chase him out of the cold water lots of times.
Taj is very good at entertaining himself. I needed him to keep himself busy for 10 minutes while I finished up and emailed some work. I looked over after a few minutes and saw that Taj had gone into the cupboard, taken out the cornstarch, and spread it all over the livingroom. He was lying in it, rolling his little dump truck back and forth. I said, "Taj! I cook with that!" He said, "You cook with that mama. I put it in my dump truck.
Taj is in his second year at Kim Kingdom's childcare. He LOVES it. He LOVES his friends. They do a group hug when he gets to school. They play a game called monster monster in the older, Wed/ Fri group. Taj is the monster and he chases them all over. I think he is starting to get that he is chasing them. At first, he just ran where everyone else did and laugh his head off.
Food: quantity is still pretty small, diversity is great. Taj really started to like vegetables this summer when we got a bed at the community garden. I had a bumper crop of japanese cucumbers, carrots, and sungold tomatoes. I would pick a two foot long cuc for Taj, wash it, and he would just chomp down on it right in the bed. Yum!
We quit naps this fall, when we got super tired of Taj going to bed at 11. So now we have a lot more time together to do things in the afternoon. Lot's of park/bookstore/garden/playtime. Taj destroys my house quite quickly these days. His way of playing with things is to throw them around. Needless to say, I have gotten rid of most small things with lots of parts. For a while I just wanted to get him some gymnastic mats and a bar so he could practice all of his gymnastics from the comfort of our living room. Once I priced them, I realized that a new couch would be much more affordable, and would offer him the opportunity to do his flips and summersaults more safely, as well as the opportunity to build forts. It comes in a couple weeks.
He has a very happy, adaptable disposition. As always, we feel lucky every day to have him.
I'll add more as I remember it.
Happy holidays to all!
